Ace Combat 8 PC System Requirements

The PC build asks for a modern card and a lot of fast storage. These are the published minimum and recommended specifications, plus what the two genuinely mandatory requirements mean for older machines.

Last updated: September 30, 2026Specifications read from the Steam store listing, which is the version Bandai Namco publishes for the PC build.
The specification

Minimum and recommended specs

Both tiers share the same operating system, DirectX level and storage requirement. What changes is the processor, the memory and the graphics card — and what framerate you should expect.

The minimum tier targets 1920×1080 with upscaling at 30 fps on the Low preset. The recommended tier targets 1920×1080 with upscaling at 60 fps on Medium. The publisher notes that framerate can drop during the busiest scenes at either tier.

What the mandatory requirements mean

Most system requirement tables describe what runs the game comfortably. This one has a harder floor than usual, and it is worth checking before you spend anything.

  • An SSD is required, not preferred. Both tiers list an SSD rather than "SSD recommended", so a spinning drive is not a supported target.
  • Your graphics card needs hardware ray tracing. The minimum specification still lists a ray tracing capable card — GeForce RTX 2060 or Radeon RX 6600 XT at the bottom end. Cards from before that generation do not satisfy the requirement, whatever preset you are willing to accept.
  • DirectX 12 with Shader Model 6.6. That combination rules out older driver and hardware generations that manage DirectX 12 itself but stop short of Shader Model 6.6.
  • Windows 11 only. Windows 10 is not listed, and there is no macOS or Linux build.
  • Recommended still means Medium. The recommended tier targets the Medium preset at 1080p with upscaling, so high resolutions and the upper presets sit above the published specification and should be budgeted for accordingly.
Before you download

Storage and pre-loading

The PC build needs 150 GB of free space on an SSD. Because it is the only official install figure, it is also the only one on this page: console download sizes and any day-one patch have not been published, and guessing them would be worse than leaving them out.

Steam lists the game as a pre-purchase, so the sensible move is to start the download before launch night rather than at the same minute as everyone else. If your drive is close to full, clearing space first is faster than discovering the problem halfway through the transfer.

Handhelds

Steam Deck and other handhelds

Valve has not published a Steam Deck compatibility rating for Ace Combat 8. On the published specification the game sits well above what a Deck-class handheld is designed for, but we are not going to state a comfort verdict that nobody has tested. Treat the rating as pending and check the Steam page again after launch.

Consoles

Console performance

Bandai Namco and Sony and Microsoft have not published performance modes, resolution targets or framerate caps for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions. Launch coverage of frame rates should be treated as provisional until there is a published analysis to check against.

Fine print

DRM, anti-cheat and languages

  • The recommended tier still targets Medium at 1080p with upscaling, so higher resolutions and the upper presets sit above the published specification.
  • The publisher notes that frame rate can dip during the busiest scenes at either tier.
  • No macOS or Linux build is listed.
  • The PC release uses Denuvo Anti-Tamper, a machine activation limit of five systems per day, and kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat.
  • English is the audio and subtitle baseline, with 12 further interface and subtitle languages including Japanese, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese.

The activation limit and the kernel-level anti-cheat are worth knowing about before buying on PC, particularly if you change hardware often or run a locked-down configuration.

PC requirements questions

Can my PC run Ace Combat 8?

Check two things first, because they are requirements rather than preferences: you need an SSD with 150 GB free, and a graphics card that supports hardware ray tracing. After that, compare your processor, memory and card against the two tiers above. Windows 11 and DirectX 12 with Shader Model 6.6 are required at both tiers.

Does Ace Combat 8 require an SSD?

Yes. Both the minimum and recommended specifications list an SSD, along with 150 GB of available space. Nothing in the published requirements suggests a mechanical drive is supported.

Does Ace Combat 8 work on Steam Deck?

Valve has not published a Steam Deck compatibility rating for the game. On paper it asks for a ray tracing capable graphics card and 150 GB on an SSD, both of which sit above a Deck-class handheld's target specification, so treat handheld play as unconfirmed for now.

Is Ace Combat 8 available on Mac or Linux?

No. The Steam listing supports Windows 11 only, with no macOS or Linux build. Linux players would be relying on compatibility layers, which the publisher does not support, and the kernel-level anti-cheat is a common obstacle there.

How much storage do I need for the PC version?

150 GB of free space on an SSD. That is the figure the publisher lists; console download sizes and any day-one patch size have not been published.
